A clear need for unambiguous production reports accessible to all stakeholders within the
organization.

Situation

• Information regarding production and
  maintenance processes is scattered across many
  systems situated on various production (offshore)
  and office locations.
• Production data is being stored on local systems
  and therefore unavailable to other users without
  access to these local systems.
• Calculations are being done using Excel, which
  also served as (local) storage of the results of
  these calculations.
• Production reports are being sent via e-mail to
  stakeholders within the organization.
• Difficulties arose with the maintainability of the
  Excel workbooks containing the various reports
  and questions were raised concerning the validity
  of the presented production figures as copies
  made from existing Excel production reports
  could present various versions of the truth.

Solution

• Daily production reports were developed using data from the OSIsoft PI system.
• PI-AF and Asset Analytics are used to execute all calculations.
• The MAGION Application Framework was used to create a web application which shows the
  daily reports and which enables the user to enter manual input to add context to the data.
• Through the MAGION Application Framework, it also became possible to add data from third
  party systems such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and provide data
  for the creation of work orders in maintenance systems (such as MAXIMO).

Project results

All information regarding the daily production figures per location can be found in one place. Users have access to the information and functionality via their web browser, and can add context using manual input without the need of local systems. All users access the same data without the possibility of obsolete local copies. It remains possible to create a PDF version of the report for validation purposes. The application is easily extendable with additional reports for specific topics such as allocation, chemicals, running hours, etc.
